Things We do on Sunday Summary

Over the last 60 years, our nation and society in general have changed a great deal. Many of the things that have been kept sacred in years gone by no longer hold any value to many people today. This has contributed in many ways to the detriment of our nation and the values we all had at one time. Want to learn more? visit us.

There is nothing wrong with change. Change is good in many ways, but change is not good for the sake of change, and there are always certain values and customs that should never change. One of those is our observance of Sunday, the seventh day of the week.

There was a moment when no one would think of working on Sunday unless one performed a vital service. On Sunday morning, the entire Christian world came to a stop, to be resumed again the next day. Believe it or not, even finding a restaurant open was difficult, as most people either went to church and/or did family stuff afterwards. This usually included a family dinner around the table for grandma. There really wasn’t much need for a Sunday restaurant to be open.

Then slowly things began to change, people began to stop at a restaurant for Sunday dinner because of being a little more prosperous, before doing their family activities later in the day. This was probably a good thing, as families were still engaged as a unit in some activity. But, things soon started to change.

Suddenly, on Sunday, shopping centres were open, allowing people to shop and enjoy hopping in the afternoon mall, not a bad thing, but it attracted people who needed to work out of the Sunday family routine. We began to gradually move away from a practise that had been keeping families together for many, many years.

This can probably be justified by being open on Sunday, as these individuals perform a service, there is some justification for it. However, individuals have a choice not to work in a profession if that is a problem for them, not a perfect situation. From there, things naturally evolved into a situation where working on Sunday is a common practise.

In today’s world, more and more people hardly even know it’s Sunday. For most people, it has become a normal working day. They think nothing about reserving it to spend time with family and friends. Not working on the Sabbath has become harder and harder. For a couple of reasons, this is not a road we should be going down.

The first explanation is that it is harmful and unproductive. To re-nourish and refresh themselves, the body and brain require at least one day of rest every week. The bible itself states that God was resting on the seventh day. This was to remind us humans, for a reason, that all work and no play makes man a dull person. To refresh the mind and provide new ideas and thoughts, we need recreation and communication with our fellow souls. Businesses would be well advised to give it a break, give people Sunday off, travel on Monday morning, and work longer hours four days a week to make up for lost time. Chick-fill-a is one company in the restaurant business that offers its people Sunday off. The other six days a week, judging by the crowds at their restaurant, doesn’t seem to have hurt their business at all.
